A Little Rambling

Interesting day...
Well, boring really, but I feel like rambling.

Hubby has been adjusting our furnace for the past month. Basically, it is shot, but we didn't want to buy a new one right now (I'm still unemployed, and who wants to spend thousands on a furnace?) Our home has two furnaces, the main one heats the majority of the home; living room, family room, kitchen, dining room, 3 bedrooms. The previous owners, added an in-law suite (we use as our bedroom) and a room I use as my office. These rooms have an additional furnace as well. Thank goodness we have the "spare" when the major one goes out, we have warmth in our bedroom! Hubby is a clever fellow & surprises me with his wealth of knowledge and ability to make things work.  When he can't figure it out, he will adjust it somehow. I swear the man has the ability to make things work by intimidation! When the furnace wouldn't kick back on, Hubby "kicked the crap out of it"... literally. I heard the banging, ran to the garage & there he was kicking & punching the side. Apparently, he loosened the "crap" the builds up in the gas lines. He has been repeating this beating every now and then for the past month or so. After a while, there is no crap left to knock loose and there comes a time when you just gotta replace the dang thing! Today, we got that final diagnose and will replace it tomorrow. Today I met with the Heater Man, as he calls himself. Can't wait to sign a check over to him tomorrow. {heavy sigh}

I called to set an appointment for an interview with a prospective job. The GM had called me Friday, asked me if I could call Monday at 9:00am to set the appointment. I did, but he was, "swamped and asked if he could call me back later this afternoon." "Sure! I look forward to hearing from him." He didn't call. I don't know if I should be worried or relieved.

I did get called from the hospital I am wanting to volunteer with. We did a phone interview and I am getting assigned to go forward with the Help Program, that will allow me to work with the elderly. I am so excited. This is the assignment I was hoping to get! I have another interview with them as well as starting my blood work, id printing, etc. on Friday. If we still feel this is the right assignment, I will get some necessary training, then do a shadow day.

I had fun at the Gynecologist this afternoon. (NOT). Oh I hate these yearly check ups. This one was particularly stressful, as it has been a year since my last clear PAP, following two years of slice & dice of my cervix. If you are an old follower of my blog, you may remember my run in with cancerous cell growth that plagued my cervix. Grrrr, it was frustrating. However, I was overjoyed to finally get a green light of "cleared".  Dreading today as I don't want to hear, "well, it is abnormal again and we need to take a closer look"...
It's wait and see time.

I started writing in my other blog. I have a private one. It has more ugly & bad, than good.  I write some good in it :) It needed it. I am going to try to be more positive in both.

Uhmmm, what else.
Creeped on facebook, Read a little. Cooked one of the PF Chang meals from the grocery (which was really good, Hubby & I both enjoyed). Oh yeah, came up with a craft for my giveaway in the pay it forward.

uhmmm. I'm bored. Think I will watch the Bachelor.

Fraying Friendships

I am far from an expert on friendships.  I have been Blessed to have many friends. Some are new, and some are a lifetime. People have come and gone in my life. Even when a friendship is lost, I look at the blessings of what that friendship brought me.

My parents raised me seeing the importance of good friends.  I grew up seeing first hand my parents having friends as an important part of their lives.  Many weekends my sister & I would go along with my parents to friends homes.  While the parents enjoyed visiting, we enjoyed the children of these friends. I saw my parents friends generously support and be there through many events of my parents lives as well as my parents being there for others.  Children learn what they see.  I learned the value of a friendship.

Where would I be without the guidance, support or love of my friends?  My life has been full of circumstances that the love of a good friend carried me through.

My childhood friends ~ gosh, they helped mold me into who I am today.

College friends? Even though I only went to Vincennes University for one year, those girls will never know how grateful I am that they were a part of my life.  I am lucky to still be in contact with three, but my old roommates, well, lets just say I am on the hunt. I loved them and now with my girls having their own experiences in college, I feel an even greater need to reconnect with them. Particularly Angela & Carmen. I hope that with the ease of today's technology, I will find them.

Throughout the next thirty years, so many friends developed through church, work, marriage, and having children. They come and go in my life. Some were keepers, some were just passing through.

I am truly blessed to still have many of them. Lately I have even reconnected with several through the awe of Facebook.

Knowing when to let a friendship end is difficult. Especially when you love that person and what you have shared. A betrayal? Friendships that develop a jealousy? Or when there becomes a drug, alcohol and abusive situation?
Trying to save the friend that doesn't want your help is next to impossible.
Sometimes we change, grow or develop in a new direction and perhaps a friend does not. It can be difficult when a friendship starts to fray. You try desperately to mend it, sometimes with success, sometimes not.  Devastating that someone you knew and loved so well is no longer a part of your life. While for some relief is a better word.
Sometimes it is very black and white.
Other times it is not.
You make an honest effort to communicate and the friend isn't reciprocating. Tired of the drama. Had enough of rescuing. Tired of one sided giving into the relationship. It is not healthy to hang onto a friendship where we are hurting more than growing. But feel how can you just let them down and walk away?

And what about when "you" are getting the brush off?  When someone has outgrown or for whatever reason, chooses not to remain friends with you.  That I will admit is difficult for me. Especially when I do not know what I might have done to cooled the friendship. I crave being liked. Being accepted. My feelings hurt too easily and I am too sensitive. But I realize that just because I like you, you don't have to like me.

Having a true friend can be wonderful and scary at the same time. Sometimes we are called upon to tell something a friend does not want to hear or know. Currently, I know someone that must tell a friend something that he does not want to hear. This person is taking a huge risk of ending his friendship with the news and revelation that is to be shared. But as a good friend, he knows he must. Fearfully, and with much prayer, he will have this difficult conversation.

Friendships are an important part of life. They help us in becoming a better me. But if you are not careful they can bring you down negatively and harm us. There is a balance that you must find. Sometimes, if the friendship starts to fray, you are lucky and able to mend. Sometimes you are not. It is okay to have people come and go. It is wonderful, to rekindle friendships and pick up where you left off.
Even those that leave my life have left an imprint. I do believe I am who I am because of the many that have left imprints in my heart.

Moving Along Slowly

I have anticipated this week as a glorious one. Even though the Hubby is out of town, I seem to flourish getting odd jobs done, writing, and cleaning. I try to get some visiting too as I never seem to have time.
The weekend started off with a BANG.
As I drove home from work, singing along with Diana Krall's CD, I heard a horrible BANGING! Scared the crap out of me and I saw out my rear mirror my Sun Roof fly into the interstate. Luckily the Explorer behind me dodged it before it shattered to the road. I pulled over but the traffic was intense. I decided to move along off the exit. There was no rescuing of the roof, and it appeared no was was hit or having any problem with the pieces of glass on the interstate. 5:30pm isn't exactly the time of day to try to pick up something off the major interstate unless you are suicidal.
The next morning, my car guy, and everyone that works at the dealership, was amazed as they had never seen this happen before. It appears to have literally rusted out. Now, Im not mad. Things happen. This Monte Carlo is a wonderful car that has served me well. The ironic thing is Sergio is trying to talk me into a new car (which I don't think I need till the girls graduate from college). It just so happen, the car in front of me when this happened...was the same type, style & color..except for the interior. I was daydreaming about should I.... when BAM! Is that a sign? The good news of course is that no one got hurt. The bad news, the car is 12 years old and we are experiencing some difficulty in finding parts. It will get done. The other bad news, the warranty cant be honored (long story...boring so I wont bore you).
Bummer.

Sunday, our Beloved 4th of July, I was blessed to meet up with my Sister, Julie, niece Michelle, her boyfriend Dominik (visiting America for the first time from Germany), and my Ms Annie joined us as well for lunch downtown @ Scotty's Brewhouse. I picked this spot as it is about as American as you can get. Plenty of choices for Dominik to try, a great Vegetarian Menu for Julie & Michelle, and for me~ their famous Fried Pickles. {YUMMY!} Then we walked down to the canal, the Monument Circle and just about any other interesting sightseeing spot we could find downtown. I am honored to have gotten this opportunity to meet Dominik. I see what Michelle sees in this charming young man. I see a twinkle in Michelle's eye that I have never seen before. I love seeing this in her. The weather was lovely, the company even better!
Today was icky. Started the day at the Vet. We discovered {yuck} FLEAS on our furry family members. So everyone has been treated and the house as well. That pretty much took all frickin' day long! Ugh... So gross. I feel so bad for our pets. They have been traumatized. They aren't use to it and I think they are embarrassed. ( Lets not tell them I have Blogged about this!)
I am having issues with my Mom lately. I love her so much, but we have drama when she starts getting manic. I friended her on Facebook...nervously. We were "friends" for about a week. Today, I had to block her. I have tried to explain the whole wall vs message thing, but she doesn't understand. She is putting personal information out there that I do not appreciate being on my "wall". It is way too much information!
The interesting thing is, well, people that Blog are exposing themselves but in a controlled way. I give you details but carefully. I never lie or falsify information. I put my heart on my sleeve and pour out my feelings. Most of my followers are strangers. At least we start out that way. I am cautious about letting people close to me "follow" my Blog. I am better about it. I am proud of this Blog, and I am proud of how I have learned to express my feelings and use the blog to validate myself. Some of the stuff I have exposed about myself, I don't want my loved ones to worry or misunderstand. Mom is one of those that I think will misunderstand and worry. She wont' read what I write rather what she think she sees into something. My Mom is over-the-top. She thrives on crisis & her manic behavior tends to elevate everything. Mom has found my Blog. Hello Mom. Oh Boy. I knew she eventually would. I have had it for over two years. So, okay. I am okay with it. I don't know if she has read it all, or just discovered through Facebook how to hit the link & only read the last post. So, I don't know. Nervous, to say the least, about what she thinks of my Blog.
I've been anxious to meet up with Cousin Janet in Chicago Tuesday & Wednesday, but New Jersey got hit with a power outage and that may postpone the trip. :( My girls are hoping I go too. They are excited for me to get out. Janet brings joy to my heart and I am happy around her. Oh, and Emily & Annie are planning a "little party" and well, lets just say, I will be in the way. So hopefully, tomorrow will be a go. Lord knows I need it!
Well, I have chatted way to much. Hope I didn't bore you too much. I have so much more to share, but lets make them into another post or two!

Number 500...almost

My Blog manager claims that last posting (Merry Christmas) was my 500th post.
Oh My Gosh! MILESTONE!
But, in reality, it is only my 476th that is actually posted. I have 24 drafts that I have yet to finish or post for one reason or another.
I have decided to thin through them, toss the ones that need to be purged. And finish the ones that I started and have a rightful place in my Blog.
To celebrate this milestone I have decided to print my postings in book form. Something just for me. And anyone that wants to see it in print here at home. There is a link in our Blogspot toolbox called Blog2Print that offers this service for a reasonable price. They cleverly have a link that can allow you to see your blog, how it will fit the pages and look. You can digitally flip through the pages and become mesmerized. Or at least that is what happen to me!
http://blogspot.sharedbook.com/blog2print/googleblogger/index.html
You gotta check it out. Very cool.
This Blog has really been a wonderful experience for me. It has exceeded my expectations. I was originally looking for a little pat on the back and recognition from friends. Maybe some understanding about what I go through. I never expected to find a world of new friends. I have "met" friends going through what I am. Be it Depression, Menopause, Oldies issues, and children issues. We are so alike. Regardless if you are my friend from South Africa, Texas, Australia, or California. I can count on advice, a little sympathy, a wish of congrats, and a simple "I care" from so many of my Blog World Friends. My friends have also shared some wonderful ideas, recipes, music, and books. They have widen my horizon and helped me to reach beyond my comfort zones.
My little "just breathe janis", has changed me. It has strengthen me. It has validated me. I am forever grateful for the encouragement to start this (thank you Sheri) and the support and encouragement to continue.
I try to carefully censor what I write. Sergio is particular about several issues and I respect that. I always make sure the girls are aware if they are posted, so they can veto if necessary (Emily, has become one of my biggest fans). I try not to write about anything that would embarrass those I love, or anyone for that matter.
I have also encouraged and helped others start a blog.
For the most part, I have been thrilled to get comments. I have only had a couple of Wackos, and a small amount of SPAM. I am lucky. Sometimes I get jealous of how many followers and comments others get, but then realize how silly that is and remember what two blogger friends told me about how overwhelming it can become and take away the simplicity. I don't want hundreds of followers and comments. Just sometimes am surprised when someone will comment to me in an email or face to face, instead of in print form. I realize that is just how it is. Funny thing, I started a Facebook to get more exposure for the Blog (and to find college friends). Within weeks, I had twice as many "friends" as I have "followers in my Blog. Maybe they glance at the blog, maybe they don't. I prefer my Blog and the comfy little~big world I have with it.
Thank you. Thank you all so much for the encouragement, the faith, the laughter and the Prayers. Without you I don't think I would have made it. My Therapist thinks you all have helped me come a long way too!
My blog has been my tears, my laughter, my hope, and my life. It's a journey that I am hanging on to for dear life. Trying to enjoy the ride.

An Update on Stuff

I wanted to update you on a couple of stuff I wrote about previously.

1st~ I did mail the letter to my High School Counselor. I feel good about it. I don't anticipate hearing anything back. I just hope I brought a smile to his face and gladness in his heart. Maybe something to share with loved ones showing what a difference he has made.
2nd~ I joined Facebook. I still feel weird about it. But, it is interesting. I have had several blast from the past "friend" me. Makes me feel good. Also makes me laugh to see some of the pictures of these faces I knew, but 30 years later. They look the same, yet older! Ditto for me I know! One of my daughters "friend" me. I was surprised. She laughed, and asked me not to "creep" on her too much! I promised. And I have no intention of "friending" her friends etc.
3rd~Riley is healing very well. She is amazingly gotten playful, alert and happy! We did not realize how sick the cancer made her. Yesterday, she slipped out of her harness as she was teetered in the back yard. A neighbor came over with her happily walking aside him! I was shocked and embarrassed that I did not even know she had wondered off! He said she was fine, just visiting neighbors and hanging out a few doors down. Riley? She is friendly to us but not strangers! But here she was all friendly and playful with STRANGERS! Thank goodness she was good, alright and we had a great neighbor that walked her back over. She is a happy girl!

That's about it. Just felt like a FYI was in order since I got several comments on these issues.

Thank you my dear Blogger friends. I love you all.

Snooping Mom

A few weeks ago, I decided I needed to check up on the girls with their Internet sites. Myspace & Facebook.

I have always monitored Myspace as I felt that if you put it out on the Internet, it's fair game & I will be checking in. The girls have had their accounts for years. Rarely have I disapproved of something and had them remove. They most hated that I "snooped" at their friends pages also. But, being a Mom, I wanted to know what their friends are up to since they hang out together. Besides, many of their friends pictures included my girls. As the years have past, Myspace became less popular & Facebook more popular with them. This is different in many ways and harder to snoop! Therefore more popular for them to have.

I proceeded to try and get onto Facebook. Much like Myspace, I had to create a page for myself in order to get in. I just put the basic info that must be added: name, city, birth date. Then I hit enter. Oh My Gosh! Next thing I knew, not only did I become a member, but it automatically added me to several of my email contacts that had Facebook accounts, asking: Can I be your friend? What the heck??? I didn't ask it to do this! It was some kind of teen trick that caught me with my hand in the cookie jar!!! Twelve messages went out. Three or four to Emily's friends, a couple to Annie's, and the rest to random adults I know through business, family & or friends.

How Embarrassing!!! I started to receive responses and was getting added to contacts. I also got messages added to my "wall". I sent an email to all that received begging for my forgiveness and that I was only trying to be a snooping Mom. That I have no idea how to "read my wall comments" and that I promise to stay away from Facebook and not snoop so much. That trusting my girls and asking them to view from time to time would be enough! I had learned my lesson! I am sticking to email.
