Pretty Baby

Emily & Derek
Look at my pretty baby!
Last night was her last sorority formal.  She and Derek look so great! She sent this to me before they left.
Emily & Kelsey
This is Emily with one of her sorority sisters, Kelsey. Aren't they pretty?

They had a wonderful evening. Being a Chi Omega has been much fun. Emily always loved her dances throughout school. Middle School, High School, and College.  She's gonna miss the dances and formals.

Emily Day

Sergio and I got to see the girls this past Sunday. We drove up to Muncie, for a Parent Banquet with Emily's sorority Chi Omega. We also got to see Annie afterwards. Heaven for me, being able to see both my Baby Girls.

The Banquet was a charity silent auction raising money for Breast Cancer Foundation, one of their philanthropies.  Each sister gets a donated item, contributes money, or makes/buys an item.  With the Owl as the sorority mascot, and red and cream their colors, most the items had this type of theme going. Great things in the auction this year. director chairs, stools, blankets, Vera Bradley set, baskets of things~ a cooking theme, scrapbooking theme, beauty theme. A hot item was a Brazilian Blowout hair products, and some cool artwork and miscellaneous things.
Emily and I made a mirror with a David Letterman quote (Mr Letterman went to BSU and is a huge supporter).
We used rub on decals. We scrapped the first one (so hard to stay straight!) and this is our finished product. The quote says: "Chi-O's were the ideal partners for all occasions. They were discrete, desirable, tactful, polite, and fun.. Every Mom dreamed of her son coming home with a Chi Omega, a woman's woman."

I was pleased that it was a hot item.

The food was great, we had wonderful table mates. And the auction was a success.

Emily & I

This is Emily's final year of sorority. I have said it before, but must say again, I think the sororities have been a wonderful part of my daughters college experiences.

Picked this up while we were there.  So proud!

Also picked up this ceramic Margarita glass Emily and I made together at the Chi Omega Mother Daughter Day. I love how it turned out. Really had a hard time imagining it finished. I'm not use to ceramic drink ware (except for coffee mugs).
After the banquet we went back to Emily's house and met up with Annie, getting to visit with her and friend, Barry, for a bit. Then got going so Emily could work on some homework.

It was a beautiful day. An absolutely beautiful day♥

Bye Bye February!

I ended this month with a nice weekend. Finally. A nice weekend.
I got to see my Girls. Yesterday was Mom's Weekend with Chi Omega.
This is the back of my new T-Shirt. Great Lincoln quote. Emily, my Chi-O, and I enjoyed our craft project. We painted a pottery margarita glass. (I will have to show you after it is fired and back). Here is Emily & some of her Sorority Sisters.
Emily is 2nd row, 3rd from right (w/ glasses)
I could kick myself for not getting a picture of us together or one of Annie & Emily when we had lunch first. {What kind of a Mom, forgets to take pictures???}. I am glad my girls choose to do the Sorority thing. It has been a great opportunity for them both.

I also got to see a couple of office friends on Saturday. We met up at my favorite little pie & coffee spot. Grand Traveres Pie Company. Yum Yum! Love this little shop! So glad it isn't closer as I would stop too often!

Here is sweet Airam & me.  I love Airam. She is my sweet substitute daughter that I enjoyed so much working with and developing a friendship. I miss her and working with her allow me to see her daily.

This is Sarah and her precious little Emma. So glad Emma was able to join us as well. Sarah is just an adorable little Momma. I miss her daily as well. When you are thrown together in a work pool, sometimes the friends you make will impact you forever. These gals have done so with me. I do hope to remain lifers with them.

Last night, we had a heck of a storm or two pass through. We fell asleep to the distance sounds of thunder and lightening which always makes for delightful sleep. However, this morning, I awoke at 2:30 to the SIRENS alerting us to severe weather. Checking the television I was alerted to Tornado Warning in my area. Wait a minute... warning vs watch... It's the middle of the night, I cant remember which is the one you take cover.. so I google and YIKES! one has been sighted and could be heading toward my area. YIKES!! Another is sighted close to where my daughters live! OMGosh! Do I take cover? Call the girls? Why is Sergio asleep? He is such a light sleeper! Why isn't all this waking him up??? I sat up watching the reports tracking it, and kept vigil to what was happening outside. The temperature rose to 66 degrees rather quickly... then dropped back to 54. As it dropped I was relieved. I remember when a couple of tornadoes passed through prior. The intense rise in temperature is classic. One afternoon, it missed our neighborhood by a hair, but tore up neighboring neighborhoods. Quite a fright. Then on another evening, as the girls slept, Hubby out of town, I was up late doing laundry, watching and wondering if this was a Tornado. My dryer went off and I stepped into the laundry room. I heard the FREIGHT TRAIN that many mentioned and stepped out in time to see our trampoline twist into the air. It severed two neighbor trees and landed a twisted mess of pieces a few house away.
As a child my friend lost her home, and pets in a horrific storm. She received massive scars from the closet door hinges that torn through her leg.
Last night Hubby did wake when I returned to bed. The sirens were off, and the storms were heavy. We did not get hit, however, with the mast amounts of snow that melted yesterday as well as the heavy storms, we have a lot of flooding around us. My yard is a soggy mess, but no damage.
Annie standing in her flooded parking
Also my girls are fine. It hit south of their area. Annie sent me this picture of her in her parking. Luckily her truck sat high enough. {I think she is standing in a trash bag?}

Today I bid good riddance to February.

Don't let the door hit you in the behind on your way out, February! You were not kind to me. Not a favorite month.
You made me say good bye to a dear friend, and I am still painfully missing him.
Hubby has been not  been feeling up to par all month. He can't kick this throat virus, his back pain has been intense, and his mental being has been challenge from work stress, as well as our loss in Ron.
My youngest was in a serious car accident, and while overjoyed that she and her friends are safe and for the most part okay, I am still concerned about her head injury, and the fact that it still hurts. I think we need to re-visit the Doctor.
February has been unsuccessful for me to find a job... not a real biggy as I have now been unemployed for 4 months now.
Our Indiana governmental situations and the widely splitting of our state, as to who's side you are on. Is very laboring. It makes me sick to think that loved ones can't see this for what it is. Then again, this will be up for discussion, as it really depends on how you see it as to how you feel. Rare is the neutral person. It is a Black or White side. No Gray in between. It is dividing friendships. Regardless it has been difficult, particularly for us and our disposition.
As March Roars in, I am going to embrace it. Bring it on! I can't wait. I am going to be stronger, wiser, and more positive. It's gonna be a great month!

Mel's Run With Delta Zeta

I had a lovely time with my girls for Mel's Run. It was a fund raiser for Riley's Children's Hospital Burn Unit. Annie's sorority Delta Zeta had a a nice turn out on a beautiful day.
Corey, Annie, & Nathan
We did the walk. I'm not a runner. It is a fun Run/Walk that allows the participates to bring their dogs. Last year we brought Bandit & Dakota, this year they stayed home.
Annie & her Big~ Katie
Annie & her Little~ Alyssa

My  Girls~ Annie & Emily
I am glad my daughter's chose to join Sororities. It would have been nice if they had chosen the same, however the ones they chose are great fits for them both. Emily is a Chi Omega. And Annie is a Delta Zeta. They may not be sorority sisters, but they will always be Real Sisters. I am so proud of them both!

Amigurumi World

My new adventure is to make theses cute little crochet animals. I want to make Owls for Emily (Chi Omega mascot) and Turtles for Annie (Delta Zeta mascot). I think they will be so cute in small sorority themed Christmas trees.
Thanks to my great blog friend Pam from
http://www.scottys-place.blogspot.com/ . She sent me this book and encouragement to do it. ~Love you Pam! Promise to send a critter your way!~
It looks harder than I had anticipated. I am trying to muster the courage to get started... Or at least check my supplies for the guinea pig (well not really a guinea pig more like a ball, but it might look like a guinea pig if I give it a face).
So, no more stalling... I am going in! Wish me luck!

Chi-O Banquet

Here is my lovely Emily & I at the Chi Omega Banquet. She is looking so pretty...I am looking dumpy.

I love these banquets. It is a wonderful time for me to get to know her sorority sisters and what they are up too.

Very grateful that my girls have joined and have their sororities. They are creating wonderful memories and learning great life experiences.

A Lovely Family Outing

Saturday, Sergio, Dakota, Bandit and I drove up to Muncie to participate in Annie's sorority, Delta Zeta, fund raiser. It was a Run/Dog Walk in memory of a DZ sister that died. Proceeds went to The Riley Children's Hospital Burn Center.

We had a lovely day for the event.

Annie walked Dakota, with his spiffy DZ bandanna, while Emily walked Bandit, wearing a Chi-O bandanna.

Bandit was a bit "aggressive" barking alot and acting big & bad (he did frightened a few). And Dakota, was Mr. Friendly (surprise to us) wanting to meet every big dog there!

They did great! Bandit calmed down, and we did carry Dakota half the time because of his little handicap leg (he wanted to walk. but would have paid for it later, so we compromised, half walk / half carried). It would have been perfect if we could have brought Riley, but with her upcoming surgery, we felt it best not to bring her.

It was such fun for us all. I got to meet some of Annie's new friends. We had lunch with Emily's roommate and her family, which was great. I am so glad that Sergio was able to get away with me and have this day with the girls. Just spending time with my girls is always such a treat!

Save Second Base!

This morning Emily & I joined thousands of others in "The Race for a Cure," here in Indianapolis. This was the chosen event for her sorority, Chi Omega, and Mom's Day.

I can't think of a better day to spend with my daughter.

It was a gorgeous day, perfect for the walk/run.

Thousands and thousands turned out for the event.

I can not tell you how much I appreciated getting to take this walk with her, to chat and visit. And to stand up to Breast Cancer.

If you look closely you can read the shirt.
The bottom says: "Save Second Base" .
Emily was afraid I would be offended. I wasn't at all. Catchy phrases always make people think. We saw many "Save the TaTas!", "Save Boobies (they are awesome!)", just to mention a few.

I don't know why I have always been so passionate about Breast Cancer awareness. Cancer has hit my family, but, not breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy at thirty. Luckily it was benign.

I had a friend, (actually, I knew her children better than her), that died just shy of her fortieth birthday, leaving her three children, Motherless. Her biggest fear was that her job raising them wasn't enough. Had she given them everything? Taught them all she could? She worried more about them than anything else the Cancer brought her. At her funeral, her son was about 12, and read a prayer. He prayed that.. "God would protect Mothers everywhere, like his own, that put he and his sisters first, Mothers that make sure their children have fun, that they spend time with their children and sacrifice for their children". I cried. Mary Ellen would be so proud.

Every time I hear this song from Sarah McLaughlin I think of Mary Ellen. It was the last thing played at her funeral. Then we took a ride past a favorite bar on the way to the burial. For MaryEllen.

This picture was taken after the walk and lunch. How is it Emily can look so cute after walking three and a half miles? I look like I felt. Needing a shower and to rest my tired legs!
