Friends to the End

I had lunch with my dear friend Mary yesterday. Time flew as we got caught up. She is as wonderful as always.

A true friend to the end.

Do yourself a favor this week. Get in contact with a friend you have not talked to for some time. Call them, email them, snail mail, whatever. Just do it.

Friendships are one of the best gifts that God gives us and we do not take advantage of the joys of this blessing near enough.

Friendships, especially girlfriends, make us laugh, listen to us cry, and tell us the truth. They stand up for us, they honor us and they love us. They sometimes know us better than we know ourselves.

I know that I am very blessed with several dear friends.

I know women that do not know or understand the friendship thing. They say they have that with a Sister, a Mother, or even with a Spouse.

It is not the same thing.

I am very close to my sister and know that my husband is the best person for me, but as a husband. I would never want to replace his friends, nor would I let him replace them. I am a better Wife, Mother, Sister, Daughter, and person because of my friendships.

GO out there and embrace your friends! When that friend tells you they are so glad you got in contact with them, know that I am too. We all deserve a good girlfriend!

Nice post and a beautiful tribute to friendship.

We're all made differently though, and I'm one who prefers the company of my husband or my family (or just myself) to being with other women.

I do have one dear friend that I very occasionally go to lunch with, and it just so happens that she and her husband are like family to my husband and I, and our family. So that works out really well, because instead of spending independent time together, we are present at each others family gatherings and such. This is the way I've always preferred it.

I've found that through life, I just don't share a lot of the same interests as other women and when I've been together in a group of women (which I hate), there's always man bashing or gossip - both of which I detest, so I just prefer to have my life the way it is and I'm happy for that.

That's why I've always believed "To thine own self be true". Or to pen the words of an old Genesis song - I know what I like and I like what I know. :-)

I always appreciate your thoughtful posts.

Thank you for the comments!
I love that we can share opinions and even when they are different. It is so wonderful to get others perspective.
I do get what Linda said. I have met many women that feel it necessary to gossip & pick on the men. However, that is so not me! The funny thing with my girls weekend, the husbands use to get a little nervous that we were venting and ragging about them. They finally got it over the years that it is actually the best"away" from the guys talk. We just have more important things to discuss. If anything about the husbands it is loving.
I wish I had a little cabin to get away with girlfriends. Even for a day. The peaceful nature is the best background for girl friend time!
